ComSuper to implement SAS Business Intelligence and Data Integration
SYDNEY, Australia (04 Aug 2008) – The Australian arm of SAS, the leader in business intelligence (BI) and predictive analytics, has announced that ComSuper – the Australian Government business unit which administers superannuation schemes for Australia’s Public Service and Defence Force personnel – will implement SAS® Enterprise BI Server and SAS Data Integration, having selected them both through separate open tender processes. ComSuper – a new Canberra-based SAS customer – is both an Australian Government agency and regulated under the Financial Management Act. The organisation is thereby subject to both rigorous Australian Government reporting conditions and financial industry compliance. ComSuper’s Chief Technology Officer, Mitch Levy, said that the SAS solution was compared with a number of “best of breed” software products and was found, “To meet ComSuper’s immediate needs and be able to support the ongoing evolution of our information requirements”. The ComSuper site is one of the first in Australia in a virtual hardware environment which is supported by SAS. Mr Levy explained that SAS tools will support the modernisation of the organisation’s application platform. SAS Data Integration will be used to cleanse the data from a number of sources while the SAS Enterprise BI Server will ensure timely, high-quality management reporting. “We have strong support from our technology-savvy executive group for the ongoing development of the information management capability”, Mr Levy said. “This will give them a consistent and accurate view of ComSuper’s data holdings, which is imperative for good decision-making.” Without being specific on a return on investment figure for implementing the new initiatives he said, “From the point of view of automating processes, quality reporting against reliable data and overcoming problems, the value of what we are doing is significant”. Mr Levy added, “ComSuper’s timeframe for implementation is ambitious. The plan is to have our first release into the new enterprise data warehouse by the beginning of October, 2008. The belief is that this will be achieved through the good design developed by specialised staff over the past 12 months together with the functionality provided by the SAS software.”
