SAS Institute – Tata Consultancy Services Alliance Gathers Pace

Australian initiative proving the catalyst for global cooperation

SYDNEY, Australia  (14 May 2007)  –  The Strategic alliance between SAS Institute Australia and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) – which was formalised mid-last year – has entered a new phase with the establishment of a ‘teaming agreement’ which will enable both companies to more quickly take the first steps in developing new initiatives.

Announcing the move, Gordon Clubb, Managing Director of SAS Australia and New Zealand, said the two companies had now been working together for nine months and had honed the relationship to a point where each was well aware of the other’s strengths and setting in place the strategies to get underway with them, without time-consuming procedural pre-formalities.

He added, "The relationship enjoyed the benefit of a great kick-start when we and TCS began working together on the $3.8 million Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) application for the Victorian Education Department. This is a two-and-half year project involving about ten TCS consultants and a similar number of SAS experts and it has been invaluable in our two companies getting to know each other at every level."

The relationship between SAS and TCS is also progressively coming into place in other countries now and Clubb – together with his TCS counterpart R. Ravishankar, TCS country head for ANZ takes satisfaction that the decision to start SAS Center Of Excellence in ANZ was the catalyst for what is proving to be mutually rewarding global cooperation.

That cooperation extends to – the proactive joint exploration of enterprise level data integration opportunities; the development of a specific SAS-TCS enterprise intelligence platform; and offering innovative delivery and support models to companies both embarking on BI (business intelligence) undertakings for the first time and those with BI experience which are looking for a proven superior approach.

The VCAA application mentioned above will capture the results of all students in the State of Victoria throughout their academic lives. As TCS’s R Ravishankar explained, "This will allow the Department to provide information which can be used to enhance education in Victorian schools into the future."
