Gordon Clubb, Managing Director SAS Australia & New Zealand
Gordon Clubb, Managing Director of SAS Australia and New Zealand, joined the company in July 2001, a time marked by declining performance in a growing market. Upon assuming his role, Gordon rapidly established a change in the company’s strategic direction; steering it away from being regarded as a “data mining” company, to one delivering broader solutions that meet increasingly complex Business Intelligence requirements. It was – and remains – a change resulting from Gordon’s goal to position SAS Australia & New Zealand as a leader in what he refers to as “true Business Intelligence as opposed to its common reporting misinterpretation”. Underpinning the success of the company’s strategic directional change is Gordon’s strong policy of continually investing in the business, partnering, domain expertise and industry experts. Over the four years of his managing directorship, Gordon’s leadership and initiatives have resulted in SAS Australia & New Zealand achieving double-digit yearly growth, a four-fold sales force increase, a 70 per cent decline in customer cancellations and two SAS Outstanding Country Awards (2002 and 2004). One of the key changes introduced by Gordon has been an entirely new corporate culture, with greater reinforcement of effective communication at all levels. Along with personally conducting induction sessions for each new employee, Gordon has instituted numerous communication-specific initiatives, such as regular staff communication sessions and quarterly nationwide Webcast staff forums. These initiatives have played essential roles in establishing SAS Australia & New Zealand as a more dynamic and proactive organisation and, in a 2005 independent survey, an organisation with a 95 per cent employee satisfaction rate. Prior to joining SAS, Gordon gained his wealth of business development experience working on a range of start up projects, business turnarounds, mergers and acquisitions in high growth and highly competitive industries. Most notably, Gordon held directorate positions within the Vodafone organisation, where he played a pivotal role in driving highly successful sales, marketing and operations initiatives. Gordon was the key instigator in building regional customer bases in excess of 2 million (20% market share) in record time whilst simultaneously, overseeing major acquisition projects, controlling new sales and distribution strategies and managing revenues upward of $1.5billion across 14,000 points of presence. During his career, Gordon has held director-level and founding member responsibilities for a number of high profile Australian Institutions - including the Australian Sales Institute - earning him a reputation as a respected industry adviser. Gordon holds an Accounting Diploma and is a member of the National Institute of Accountants, Australian Institute of Marketing, Australian Sales Institute and Institute of Company Directors. |
