DAVID BOWIE, Business Solutions and Services Director,
SAS Australia & New Zealand

David Bowie

David Bowie, SAS Australia’s Business Solutions and Services Director, joined SAS in November 2002 as Professional Services Director before being promoted to his current position in July 2006.

Heading up a team of approximately 25 senior SAS managers, David is directly responsible to the company’s Managing Director for the key areas of marketing, alliances, customer retention and solution practice management. While providing each manager with the required level of autonomy to manage their individual practice or department, David lends his considerable experience in project and personnel management to each area.

Prior to being appointed Business Solutions and Services Director, David was in the role of Marketing Director. With an across-the-board involvement in the broad scope of SAS operations, David played a major role in the coordination of efforts to ensure increased market recognition, appreciation and understanding of the SAS enterprise intelligence platform.

One of David’s first acts upon taking on the role of Business Solutions and Services Director was working on the realignment of local SAS operations, taking the company from its product-centric model to one that is sector- and solution-centric. As a result of this realignment, SAS was better positioned to provide its targeted vertical industry sectors with more effective and relevant solution offerings.

As the Business Solutions and Services Director, David is responsible for 120 staff members, with 10 Senior Managers directly reporting to him. David’s responsibilities cover:

  • The products SAS brings to market
  • The success of solution based business development activities
  • Targeting the right solutions to the right customers
  • Overseeing project implementations, training and support to ensure that SAS translates a customer’s vision into tangible business benefits.

For nearly 10 years, David was an IT management consultant with Price Waterhouse prior to joining Lotus (a division of IBM) in 1994 as the Professional Services Director for Australia & New Zealand – a practice area he grew by around 300 per cent. After five years in that role, he was the General Manager of ComTech On-line, an e-commerce development group that had, at its peak, approximately 240 developers. Following the decline of the dot-com boom, David took over as General Manager of ComTech’s NSW operation, helping it reach annual revenues of over $100 million.

David has a Bachelor of Economics from Macquarie University and is a qualified Chartered Accountant.
