HP and SAS Announce Regional Competency Center for Business Intelligence

Kuala Lumpur - February 29, 2008 - HP Malaysia announced the launch of a regional Business Intelligence Competency Centre (BICC) in Malaysia in collaboration with SAS Malaysia. This landmark collaboration between two leading vendors aims to develop a repository of best practices and methodologies that can be a focal point of reference for prospective customers in the Southeast Asia region looking to implement BI solutions in their organizations.

Both companies will focus on packaging business solutions that leverage HP’s Business Intelligence (BI) best practices as a framework complemented by SAS’ BI solution strength. The packaged BI business solutions are designed to help customers attain business growth and profitability through agility by using business data and information effectively within their organizations.

As a first step, HP will be dedicating personnel to lead the establishment of the regional BICC. Subsequently, HP will also be growing a team to market SAS BI solutions on top of enabling more HP consultants to implement SAS applications. To date, more than 30 percent of the delivery personnel have been trained on SAS applications.

According to a special report by IDC(1), the Business Intelligence (BI) market is expected to grow by 14 percent year-on-year (1H 2007 to 1H 2008) to US$6.6 million (RM22.4 million), with medium-sized companies and the public sector projected to be the main adopters of BI solutions. Driven by increasing regulatory requirements and external competition, these organizations will be able to tap on the expertise and experience of HP Malaysia and SAS Malaysia via this BICC to reduce the information complexity within their organization and thereby improve their business processes.

“This partnership between HP and SAS is timely because customers will be able to benefit from proven BI implementations that offer less risk, reduced costs and minimum downtime,” said Datin Lim Bee Wah, General Manager, Consulting & Integration, Technology Solutions Group, HP Malaysia. “This in turn will ultimately allow customers to have better access to information and make improved and sound business decisions.”

“Corporations are placing high priority on investing in BI as it facilitates competitive-edge analysis, query and reporting business performance information. However often the inability to integrate IT into their company’s core business leads to the breakdown of their investment,” said Jonathan Lee, Head of Alliances & Channels, SAS Malaysia.

“HP’s complete suite of services, depth of platform and tools, and proven implementation record among SAS clients has continued to be regarded as the perfect fit for business intelligence and predictive analytics software. Customers in the region will get the best of both worlds via this collaboration,” continued Lee.

SAS is the leading BI software provider in Malaysia with a 31.3 percent market share(1). SAS’ solutions are implemented by various industries across the board including the FMCG, banking, F&B, manufacturing and public sectors.

As one of the leading global BI services provider, HP is fully committed to offer customers a holistic solution to address the challenges in managing the complexity of their information. Through the acquisition of Knightsbridge in 2006, HP brings decades of experience managing large and complex data environments, and a large and dedicated workforce of 2,800 BI practitioners worldwide. Offering end-to-end solutions via collaborations with best of breed partners such as SAS, HP will enable organizations to have better visibility, insight, and decision making for improved business performance and productivity.
