Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai turns to SAS' Business Intelligence in their quest for sustainable competitive advantage
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai, set up by an Act of Parliament of India, is recognized as one of the centers of academic excellence in the country. The Institute is one of the seven higher Institutes of Technology in the country set up with the objective of making available facilities for higher education, research and training in various fields of Science and Technology.
Circa 1946 - A high-power committee of Govt. of India recommended establishment of four higher institutes of technology of the level of their counterparts in Europe and United States to set the direction for the development of technical education in the country. These institutes were designed to provide the necessary dynamism and flexibility of an organization, in the light of expanding knowledge and changing socio-economic requirements of modern society. Planning for the Institute at Mumbai began in 1957 and the first batch of 100 students was admitted in 1958.
Today the Institute on an average admits 500 candidates for the undergraduate programme, 100 candidates for M.Sc. programmes, 550 candidates for different postgraduate programmes and 110 for Ph.D programmes every year. With broad underlying objectives to provide the best possible educational facilities for training bright students for the careers in technology and science, to provide a creative atmosphere in which higher studies and research thrive both amongst the students and the faculty, and to provide leadership in curriculum design and development, IIT Mumbai seeks to establish traditions which will foster creativity and growth of excellence.
