BI Apps Market To Cross
$30 Million By 2005
-
Oct 09, 2003 The total business intelligence (BI) applications market in India is expected to generate revenues of $16 million by end 2003. According to a Frost & Sullivan study on the BI market in India, these revenues are expected to touch $30.4 million by the end of 2005. Frost & Sullivan director for South Asia, Aditya Sapru, said the BI market in India was largely untapped and still in its nascent stage. However, it was likely to witness high growth rate during the period 2003-04. “The demand is likely to be fuelled primarily by large and medium enterprises and MNCs,” he told eFE on the sidelines of a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) seminar on business intelligence. According to Vivek Gokarn, CEO & managing director, SAS India, the BI market in India is being driven primarily by services companies, which is signified by very high contributions from the banking and finance, telecom, and call centre companies. BI comprises applications and technologies used for accumulating, amassing, analysing, and providing access to data that facilitates better, quick, and efficient decision making. BI applications include the activities of OLAP, report generation, decision support systems (DSS), query and reporting (Q&R), statistical analysis, forecasting, data warehousing, and data mining. One positive trend observed in the market is that many large organisations are going in for data warehousing, data mining, online analytical processing (OLAP) on transactional data, and some data mart suites to address the needs of specific business units or departments, the report said. |
