Business Intelligence - Insight or Imperative

Economic Times Intelligence Group Knowledge Forum – Supported by SAS

The Economic Times (ET) with a strong philosophy of “The Power of Knowledge”, is focused on providing cutting edge business knowledge in all forms of delivery - print, multimedia and events. This philosophy has been further extended through platforms like Corporate Dossier, Super Achiever’s Forum, ETIG Knowledge Forum, ET Think Turf and many others.

"Entrepreneurs have always held that strategy is about gut feel or instinct. In such a context, using a software aid for business intelligence seems relatively unusual. If business intelligence is all about judgment, experience, intelligence and gut feel, surely a number crunching software tool is an oddity. So what is the truth? Do we need business intelligence software? Do we need it merely to provide us some insight? Or does absence of business intelligence software constrain executive's effectiveness? Is business intelligence software a 'good to have' or is it a 'must have'? Is business intelligence for useful insight or a mandatory imperative?

Dr. James (Jim) Goodnight, along with a panel of eminent leaders from other businesses, will address these issues on ‘Business Intelligence - Insight or Imperative' through this edition of the ETIG Knowledge Forum. Jim Davis will be delivering the Keynote address on the subject. Jim Davis is Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer, SAS.

Dr. James (Jim) Goodnight is Chief Executive Officer of SAS, the world's largest privately held software company. He recently moderated a panel at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Dr. Goodnight is also the co-chair of the World Economic Forum to be held in New Delhi from 27 - 29th November 2005.

Dr. Goodnight, a Fellow of the American Statistical Association who has authored numerous papers on statistical computing, Jim Goodnight is listed in the database of Great American Business Leaders published by the Harvard Business School Leadership Initiative.
