SAS continues to lead the business intelligence market in Hong Kong

Hong Kong (June 17, 2009) – SAS continues to be the top leader in the business intelligence and business analytics market in Hong Kong. According to IDC, SAS has sustained the largest market share in combined BI and financial performance and strategy management (FPSM) in Hong Kong in 2008, taking up 26 percent market share in terms of software revenue, which is inclusive of license, maintenance, and other software revenue. SAS also dominates the advanced analytics market in Hong Kong. Based on IDC’s Asia Pacific Semi-Annual Business Intelligence Tracker, 2H08, SAS’ market share on advanced analytics in terms of revenue is 71% in 2008.

“The well-recognised analytical technology of SAS drives its leadership in the local BI market, especially in the advanced analytics area,” said Sharon Tan, Research Manager, Software Research, IDC Asia/Pacific. “In Hong Kong, we expect the combined business intelligence and FPSM market will continue to expand. Despite the economic turmoil, we expect this market to continue growing, albeit at lower rates, to help with compliance and governance related issues and to support strategic goals such as customer retention and profitability maximization."

Grasping Insights for Containing Costs and Maximising Revenue
“We are delighted to have sustained our leadership in this challenging environment. The number one ranking that IDC has awarded us continues to confirm our expertise and analytics technology leadership in Hong Kong’s business intelligence market,” said Cecil Ko, General Manager of SAS in Hong Kong. “From the financial tsunami to a potential epidemic, we see that companies in Hong Kong require insights and foresights generated by advanced analytics, enabling them to devise agile strategies and navigate them through current tough circumstances.”

According to the IDC tracker, the financial services sector (banking, insurance and financial markets) continues to have the largest share of business intelligence adoption in 2008, with 42 percent of total revenue generated in the market. In fact, financial services sector can make calculated moves to control risk, achieve better pricing and contain cost. In addition, by embedding beyond-silo-approach stress testing capabilities, financial services institutions are able to determine the likely impact on capital and risk profiles from fluctuations of key economic aspects, such as market interest rates.

Looking ahead, financial services sector will sustain the lead in utilizing advanced analytics, with a gradual shift from risk management to customer behavioral management. Meanwhile, SAS believes the public sector will accelerate its pace much faster in advanced analytics, through adopting social analytics and citizen intelligence applications to more proactively and appropriately manage people’s day-to-day lives.

Meeting Different Business Analytics Demand
“Our unmatched intelligence technologies, such as text mining, web analytics and social intelligence, are becoming more prevalent. SAS is committed to delivering competitive insights that are gleaned from structured or unstructured data mining to support customers on fact-based business decisions,” said Ko. “We will continue to focus on using advanced analytics to solve both business and social issues.”
