SAS Named Top Hong Kong Business Intelligence Software Vendor by IDC

(June 28, 2004) SAS, the leader in business intelligence, today announced it has been ranked the company leader in the Business Intelligence (BI) software market in Hong Kong in 2003 by global market intelligence firm, IDC.

According to IDC's Asia Pacific (excluding Japan) Business Intelligence Software 2004-2008 Forecast and 2003 Vendor Shares, SAS Hong Kong achieved 22% of the total BI software revenue share. The report noted that the BI software market (excluding Japan) worth US$243 million in 2004, included end-user query, reporting and analysis tools, data mining tools and packaged data mart and warehousing tools.

SAS revolutionised the BI market with the SAS?/span>9 Business Intelligence platform (SAS?). This enabled organisations to leverage SAS analytics to understand their business past and monitor the present, while being able to reliably predict the future. SAS?/span>9 further reinforces SAS' position as the true BI visionary in providing an end-to-end solution, from data manipulation tools to business reporting interfaces and unparalleled analytic capabilities.

"SAS believes that the true BI solutions that can help transform the way companies do business must include major components such as data preparation - data integration, quality and storage - predictive analytics, query and reporting," said Peter Tsang, Managing Director of SAS Hong Kong. "The SAS?/span>9 Business Intelligence platform provides one integrated process for analysing data from every source and gaining the predictive power to drive change at every level."

Through the SAS?/span>9 platform, SAS has enhanced the users' total experience, building targeted end-user interfaces that allow more people within an organisation to gain invaluable insights into their business and focus on the strategies most likely to yield success.

Launched in March this year SAS?/span>9 has already gained solid recognition amongst industry watchers and commentators. According to Phillip Howard of Bloor Research,
". there is no other suite of products in the market that has the breadth of capability that SAS?/span>9 can provide with the level of integration that underpins it. Put that together with the scalability and other features that the platform provides and we concur with the company that SAS has produced an enterprise-class business intelligence platform".

According to SAS, a number of clear trends will emerge in the Business Intelligence market over the next two to three years - most importantly, BI will become a strategic investment for enterprises. SAS is well placed to take advantage of this trend offering line-of-business and industry solutions that embed predictive analytics into packaged applications.

"The market potential for BI is growing and SAS will continue its reach into the local market with its industry focus. The SAS?/span>9 platform is the only enterprise-wide solution for organisations that have a clear goal to lower total cost of ownership and experience a rapid return on investment," said Tsang.
