SAS, Teradata customers influence product development
Johannesburg, South Africa (29 Apr. 2011) – Innovative direction for the long-time partnership between SAS, the leader in business analytics software and services, and Teradata, the world's largest company solely focused on data warehousing and enterprise intelligence, now comes from customers – a Product Advisory Council (PAC) that provides customer input and validation to joint SAS and Teradata in-database offerings before they go to market.
"The SAS and Teradata PAC are unique in providing a platform through which joint customers influence the in-database solutions we develop together," explained Paul Kent, SAS Vice-President, Platform Research and Development.
"Who knows better what customers need from vendors? Our mission is to deliver integrated in-database analytic solutions that help our customers meet changing demands and remain competitive. The invaluable perspective of the PAC enables us to do just that."
As SAS and Teradata broaden the portfolio of in-database analytic solutions available in their Advantage Programs, customer input has been significant in several areas, including:
"The SAS and Teradata PAC provides Cabela's an excellent opportunity to network with peers and collaborate with both thought leaders on a technology that has become vital to our organisation. SAS and Teradata are demonstrating an outstanding willingness to not only listen to their customers, but take concrete actions," said Dean Wynkoop, Cabela's Manager of Data Management for Market Research and Analysis.
Throughout the year, in-depth discussions with SAS and Teradata executives and thought leaders at PAC events allow members to understand the in-database direction and help prioritise efforts. PAC members also network with other customers with similar issues and values – enabling them to collaborate on innovative ideas and solve business problems.
"We are inviting to the PAC analytic practitioners across industries who seek an inside view and impact on the future of analytics," said Scott Gnau, Teradata Chief Development Officer and Executive Sponsor of the SAS and Teradata Partnership. He added that the PAC ensures that in-database offerings meet real customer needs and provide value. "Not only is the PAC important to SAS and Teradata, but members get tremendous value from participating."
PAC member Thomas Tileston, Vice-President of Business Decision Support at Warner Home Video, adds: "Our work with Teradata and SAS focuses on data quality management, a master data initiative. This challenging undertaking has a broad impact on our large, growing user base. We are breaking new ground here and I appreciate having the PAC community available for discussion."
Additional members of the free-to-join SAS and Teradata PAC include Barclays, Lowe's Home Improvement – the second largest US-based home improvement retailer – national retailer Overstock.com, and MillerCoors.
