SAS History (years using SAS, platforms, primary products, etc.): I’ve been using SAS for less than a year.  In that time, I’ve come to realize how powerful and versatile it is, and the potential to do great things with it in my program.  I’m particularly fond of Enterprise Guide and Graph’n’Go, but haven’t been able to really use them for my department yet.

Hobbies: I love watching sci-fi movies and reading anything I can get my hands on.  I love cooking (and eating!), and have recently conquered baking a three layer red velvet cake (including homemade icing).
Ideal weekend: Spending the morning with a mug of tea and a book, and then going out for a long walk with my wife.  Dinner at our favourite restaurant and then a sci-fi movie!

Why I got involved in the SAS Canada Community: When I first started using SAS (all of 6 months ago) I started doing research online and bookmarking sites; I stumbled across the SAS Canada Community and was really happy that there was a place for Canadians to help each other out, network, and just be a community.  I also really like the fact that a lot of the people I meet online are at the TASS Conference, and I’m hoping to get to know more members in the next few months.

If I could be anything at all (besides a SAS programmer), I would be: An astronomer or a Kindergarten teacher.  I would love to stare up at the stars in awe, or pass that love of science onto our younger generations.

One thing every SAS programmer should know:  PROC SQL is your friend!  Having worked with SQL for over 6 years, I was thrilled when I realized I could use my beloved SELECT statements in SAS, and I’m excited to see where I can go with it.
