A
Note From SAS Canada
Hello, insights Readers;
Welcome to the “data” issue of insights! Since
1976, SAS has been synonymous with
data management and analysis, recognizing
that with a mandate to achieve business goals, organizations need
to take data collection and cleansing seriously. Fairmont
Hotels & Resorts , for example, was able to optimize its
CRM program by enhancing the quality,
reliability and accuracy of its data.
However, as much as things change, the need for good data management
remains constant. For a current perspective, this white paper on information
management discusses its evolution and outlines the SAS approach
for a coherent IM strategy.
To bring you the latest in the data
world, we’ve added a new tab for
this issue, “Data 101.” We’ve asked
some of our experienced SAS® practitioners
– such as Lisa Eckler, a 20-year
SAS consultant and the Co-Chair of
the NESUG regional conference – to
help us explore the topic of data
quality. Also in this section, Marc
Smith – a SAS authority on leveraging data for business advantage
– discusses how he’s seen the use of data evolve and what its future
might be. Gary
Gray – a Senior Data Integration Specialist at SAS
– addresses some frequently heard questions from customers about
the DataFlux
program and data quality in general. You’ll also find a link
to the Webinar series Got
Bad Data?, which explores the pitfalls and solutions to data
woes.
I’d also like to announce the official
opening of the 2009 Customer
Value Award nominations with a special incentive for you, the
nominators! As you may recall from contests past, the lucky CVA
winner receives return airfare, as well as hotel and registration
costs paid for by SAS Canada at the upcoming SAS
Global Forum, taking place from April 11-14, 2010, in Seattle,
WA. This year, we would like to offer a small prize to the nominators
as well: if submitted before Nov. 30, each nomination
will entitle the submitter to a “thank you” reward from SAS. For
more details and to submit your nominees, please visit the Customer
Value Award page. Better yet, you may consider submitting
a paper to present at SAS Global Forum. The deadline for submission
is Oct. 26.
Finally, a note about how some recently
proposed privacy legislation may dramatically affect how we are
able to communicate with you. Before long, Canadian law may require
you to opt in in order to allow SAS to continue to send you newsletter
and event invitations by e-mail. SAS values your privacy; therefore,
more than ever, it’s important to establish a SAS
Profile if you haven’t already done so. This profile allows
you to customize your level of SAS interaction; from users group
invitations to Webinars, and more. Don’t get cut off from the latest
news and events: Make sure you sign up for your SAS
Profile right away!
Best,
