Caribbean
User Group Sessions Coming Around Again!
As we say “happy trails” to San Antonio
and another successful SAS® Global Forum, we do so with fond memories
of excellent paper presentations and demos, exciting announcements,
and for Canadian, Caribbean and Latin American attendees at the
conference, a good dose of line dancing and bull riding to boot!
During Opening Session at this year’s
SAS annual conference, several major announcements were made. To
strengthen SAS software’s ability to analyse text and other unstructured
data, Teragram of Cambridge, MA, was recently acquired. Teragram’s
NLP technology is currently in use at CNN, Yahoo!, Forbes.com,
NYTimes Digital, Sony and WashingtonPost.com. http://www.sas.com/offices/NA/canada/en/news/preleases/031708/acq.html
Also, coming on the heels of five
months of joint development, SAS and Teradata announced new bundles
for allowing customers to benefit from in-database analytics. The
new SAS
Scoring Accelerator for Teradata enables customers to translate
scoring models created in SAS
Enterprise Miner™ into Teradata-specific functions to be executed
directly within the Teradata environment. http://www.sas.com/offices/NA/canada/en/news/preleases/031708/Teradata.html
With 19 technology and industry tracks
delivering well over 100 papers and presentations, SAS Global Forum
offers great information for both attendees as well as those who
couldn’t make it out this year. Be sure to check out all of this
years’ papers http://www2.sas.com/proceedings/forum2008/TOC.html
During the first week of June, SAS
user group meetings will be held in Puerto Rico (June 3) and Jamaica
(June 5) once again. Additionally, Gaining Competitive Advantage
Through Business Intelligence – a seminar looking at the business
value associated with business intelligence, will be held on those
days as well. Stay tuned for invitations coming soon. Finally,
we look forward to adding a Dominican Republic user group to the
Caribbean user group family as we ramp up for the fall season!
If you have any thoughts or creative ideas

programs, please feel free to send me an e-mail at Wally.Thiessen@sas.com.
