SAS®9 Techie Tip – Quickly copying images
from WRS/IDP to Microsoft Office
By James Waite, SAS Canada
Users often want to copy specific graphs from SAS Web Report Studio
or the SAS Information Delivery Portal into a Microsoft Office
document or presentation.
There are a few standard mechanisms for doing this, such as exporting
the entire report or right-clicking the graph and choosing Save
Image As … (PNG or BMP). However, these require multiple steps
since the user then has to open the application and use the Insert
menu to browse to (and remember) where the image/file was saved.
Here is a handy shortcut that involves no saving, browsing or
manual inserts.
Note: This illustration shows Microsoft Word, though it could
be any other application such as PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.
Step 1: Open Word, PowerPoint, etc.
Step 2: In WRS, click and drag
image to copy.
Step 3: Drag to and hover over
Word application on taskbar.
Note: You will initially see the
symbol, but the application will open after a couple of seconds.
Step 4: Drag into the active document
to the desired location and drop – a few seconds later, the image
will appear as an embedded (not linked) object, which you can easily
resize, reposition, etc.
