CIGNA HealthCare

Healthcare insurance, USA
Focus: BI data integration and information management

In today’s heavily regulated healthcare marketplace, insurers must effectively respond to a range of competing demands – from improving medical outcomes to retaining subscribers/members and controlling runaway costs. Not surprisingly, timely, accurate information and in-depth analyses play a pivotal role in insurers’ efforts to compete well and meet compliance requirements.

For more than 20 years, SAS has helped CIGNA HealthCare succeed in this dynamic environment by helping enable the insurer to fulfill new requests from customers, consultants, brokers, providers and regulators for detailed analyses and timely reports.

“SAS helps us coordinate access to information that enables us to improve our member outreach and, as a result, improve member health outcomes and member services,” says Tamim Ahmed, Vice President of Informatics and Customer Reporting.

In the coming year, CIGNA HealthCare intends to intensify its focus on data integration, medical analysis and medical management reporting. “We’ll be relying on SAS Business Intelligence to provide our analysts with more in-depth information on how the company’s new programs affect members and improve their clinical results. By integrating and coordinating and reporting the right information more efficiently – while maintaining confidentiality and data security – SAS will support a number of strategic programs such as our CIGNA Health AdvisorSM, which provides health and wellness coaching to members. Ultimately, improving health outcomes is our mission – and SAS helps us achieve that,” Ahmed says.

“CIGNA HealthCare” refers to various operating subsidiaries of CIGNA Corporation (NYSE:CI), including Connecticut General Life Insurance Company. Products and services are provided by such operating subsidiaries, and not by CIGNA Corporation.
