BI Competency Centers: The Brain of Your BI Strategy

Establishing a Business Intelligence Competency Center

Each BI Competency Center is unique. The organizational culture, size, structure and industry will influence the way the competency center is set up. SAS and its partners will assess your current organizational environment and make recommendations. Establishing a center generally includes:

  • Initialization
    Obtain executive sponsorship. Identify key business and IT stakeholders. Secure funding and establish a steering committee.

  • Definition
    Identify current information status. Perform gap analysis and create an implementation roadmap. Obtain approval. Determine priorities, required technologies and skills.

  • Establishment
    Determine and assign required roles. Conduct organizational change management activities. Secure resources and conduct training.

  • Operation
    Engage in initial project. Review progress and functions. Promote services internally. Adjust scope and responsibilities.
