ThinkTank connects institutions of all sizes, public and private, to showcase experiences, implementations, innovations and expertise in academic technology. “SAS education technology spans the entire learning experience,” said Armistead Sapp, head of the SAS Education Practice. “This track highlights innovative work that is improving teaching, learning and administration at all levels.” In the “Business of Education” track, Dr. David B. Johnson, Associate Vice Provost for Enrollment Management at Indiana University, will discuss best practices in recruiting and retention, including targeted marketing and analyzing pre-enrollment data to predict student retention. Oklahoma City Community College’s Director of Enterprise Business Intelligence, Dr. James Riha, will address accountability and a framework for developing and sustaining an institutional culture of evidence and data-driven decision making. SAS for Enrollment Management provides higher education institutions with access to timely data to support decision making and strategy. By using SAS, institutions can identify students who are the best candidates for admission or the greatest risk of attrition. Dr. Larry Price, Superintendent of Wilson County (NC) Schools, will detail how the SAS OnDemand for K-12 hosted solution has improved districtwide communication and problem solving. Price was a key collaborator creating the solution. SAS OnDemand for K-12 provides administrators with centralized access to vital data about their school districts without needing to hire additional staff, purchase costly hardware or wait for a lengthy technology project to be implemented. Its hosted solution model makes SAS OnDemand for K-12 optimal for school districts with limited resources and budgets for administrative technology. Sharon Irby, Laptop Project Leader for Centennial Campus Middle School in Raleigh, NC, will share lessons learned from Centennial’s 1:1 laptop learning program for eighth graders. She will be joined by two teachers who will discuss how SAS® Curriculum Pathways® has improved math and science instruction in their classrooms. Integrating SAS Curriculum Pathways, the 1:1 program is revolutionizing teaching and learning through curriculum mapping, integrated lessons and flexible scheduling in a technology-enriched environment. Available at no cost to US educators, SAS Curriculum Pathways provides online content in the core disciplines of English, mathematics, social studies, science and Spanish for grades 8-12. Aligned with state standards, its more than 1000 interactive tools and lessons apply technology-rich instruction to engage higher-order thinking skills.
