SAS wins 2013 NCTA 21 Corporate Impact Award
Analytics leader thinks globally, acts locally to generate NC-based education initiatives
CARY, NC (Nov. 13, 2013) – Business analytics leader SAS has received the 2013 Corporate Impact Award from the North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA). SAS was honored for its variety of contributions to education initiatives in North Carolina and received the award at the NCTA 21 Awards gala on November 7.
"As a high-tech company, SAS depends on a strong educational system for its long-term success. Through technology, donations and volunteerism, SAS supports efforts that prepare students for college, work and success in the 21st century. SAS maintains a keen focus on education initiatives in the statewide community of the world headquarters in North Carolina," said Caroline McCullen, SAS Director of Education Initiatives.
SAS also participates in international efforts to improve education, particularly in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). This philosophy of thinking globally while acting locally generates support for strategic education initiatives that benefit the worldwide community and North Carolina, in particular.
In December 2008, SAS CEO Jim Goodnight made SAS® Curriculum Pathways® available free to all US educators. Used by thousands of students and teachers in every state, the Web-based resource for high schools, community colleges, virtual schools and home schools provides content in the core disciplines of English, mathematics, social studies, science and Spanish.
SAS allows professors to integrate SAS software into instruction at no cost. The company also supports efforts such as 1:1 laptop learning, algebra readiness, SAS programming for high schools and a master's degree in advanced analytics at North Carolina State University.
Winners were recognized at the annual awards gala on Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Sheraton Imperial in Durham, N.C., presented in conjunction with title sponsor Grant Thornton. This year's event was attended by another impressive crowd of nearly 800 leaders from across the state.
The NCTA 21 Awards is North Carolina's only statewide technology awards program, recognizing companies and individuals who have characterized excellence, innovation and leadership in 21 categories.
