SAS is No. 3 among IT companies in Germany

CARY, NC  (Jan. 28, 2013)  – SAS Germany has been ranked No. 3 on the "The Best Places to Work in IT" list published by the Great Place to Work® Institute. The company was ranked on a list that included companies with 500 or less employeesWith headquarters in Heidelberg, SAS Germany also has offices in Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich.

"Openness, trust and exchange are three elements that define our work at SAS," said Wolf Lichtenstein, Vice President of the DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) region and Managing Director of SAS Germany.

"We work together, and that's one of the reasons for the company's success. In the last year we opened the door for big data analytics and high-performance analytics in German companies. At the same time we have continued to focus on developing our corporate culture. This ranking confirms the approach we have been taking.”
SAS Germany Human Resources Director Dorothea Schwalbach said the ranking reflects the trust and confidence of staff.  "The SAS corporate values shape the way we collaborate with each other and work with customers,” said Schwalbach.

The ranking will also help attract new employees from a very competitive job market in Germany. A survey last year noted that nine out of ten companies in Germany are expecting a lack of highly skilled workers within the next decade. The report noted a shortage of about 36,000 engineers and 66,000 IT specialists in the labor market.

"In 2013 we will be seeking new SAS colleagues who want to grow with us," Schwalbach said. "The high ranking will help us recruit the most highly skilled technology workers. While other companies might entice workers in the short term, SAS – both in Germany and abroad – has proven over and over again that it is the best company to work for."

The ranking is determined in part by results of anonymous employee surveys in the participating companies. The surveys measured key workplace issues such as trust in management; personal identification with the work and the company; teamwork; professional development; compensation and work-life balance.

The quality of human resources practices in each company also was investigated. The aim of the Great Place to Work program is to promote an employee-oriented workplace culture that strengthens the motivation and loyalty of employees, and increases the attractiveness of the business in the job market and its ability to secure future workers.
