SAS' Charles Chase honored with IBF Lifetime Achievement Award
Analytics expert illuminates the science of demand forecasting
CARY, NC (Nov. 26, 2013) – The Institute of Business Forecasting (IBF) has awarded its 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award in Business Forecasting & Planning to Charles W. Chase Jr. Chase is Chief Industry Consultant for the Manufacturing and Supply Chain Global Practice at SAS, the leader in business analytics software and services. The award recognizes professional excellence and long-term commitment to advancing the field of forecasting and business planning. Chase is the author of Demand-Driven Forecasting: A Structured Approach to Forecasting, and co-wrote Bricks Matter: The Role of Supply Chains in Building Market-Driven Differentiation with Lora Cecere.
"Charlie's contributions have definitely advanced the field of business forecasting and planning and the IBF as an organization," said Anish Jain, Managing Director, IBF. "With his leadership, we launched our first best practice event in 1996, a significant catalyst for the IBF's global growth. I'm delighted to honor his body of work with this award."
Dr. Larry Lapide nominated Chase because his own career has been heavily influenced by Chase. "Charlie's distinguished 25-year thought leadership career includes writing, speaking and teaching business forecasting," said Lapide, an MIT Research Affiliate and the first recipient of IBF's Lifetime Achievement Award. "He also has worked at a variety of prestigious companies and technology providers to implement forecasting systems. I predict his book on demand-driven forecasting will become the defining treatise on the subject."
Prior to SAS, Chase worked in forecasting and marketing positions with companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Coca-Cola, Wyeth-Ayerst Pharmaceuticals and Heineken USA. He also is an adjunct instructor in North Carolina State University's Master of Science in Analytics program.
"Charlie has distilled more than two-and-a-half decades of forecasting experience into helping people achieve extraordinary business results," said Mark Demers, Global Director of SAS' Emerging Solutions Practice. "Day in and day out, he exhibits profound insights that have changed the way companies forecast demand. Attributing his success to former managers who are now Fortune 1000 CEOs and leading scholars, Charlie continues to unselfishly 'pay it forward' for anybody with the desire to play at the top of their professional game."
Chase accepted the award at the IBF's annual conference held in Orlando earlier this month.
