SAS customer Brigham and Women’s Hospital among “CIO 100”CIO magazine recognizes hospital’s project to monitor patient careCARY, NC (Sep. 02, 2008) – Brigham and Women’s Hospital was honored recently by CIO magazine for its successful balanced scorecard initiative, using software from SAS®, the leader in business intelligence and analytics. The hospital uses SAS for Performance Management to improve health services and patient experiences, and to better manage the business of providing healthcare. Using SAS, Brigham and Women’s Hospital monitors data from 80 different sources and 50,000 patient encounters each year. The system also enables more than 1,200 employees and physicians to measure their performance against the industry standards for their positions. According to CIO magazine, the list recognizes organizations “that have used technology in innovative ways to deliver business value, whether by creating competitive advantage, optimizing business processes, enabling growth or improving relationships with customers.” In order to qualify, entrants must have used either emerging or existing technology in a novel fashion. The award was presented on Aug. 26 to Sue Schade, Chief Information Officer of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, during a gala awards dinner at CIO’s annual CIO 100 Symposium and Awards Ceremony in Colorado Springs, CO.
