451 Research: SAS® Visual Analytics and DataFlux consolidation turn up heat in business analytics
CARY, NC (Aug. 29, 2012) – In a new report, "SAS gets into visual analysis in earnest, brings DataFlux unit into the fold," leading industry analyst firm 451 Research says SAS is moving to "up its game." SAS, the leader in business analytics software and services, recently unveiled SAS® Visual Analytics with an easy-to-use interface for business analysts, and consolidated its DataFlux business unit into SAS global operations.
The report by 451 Research's BI and Analytics Analyst Krishna Roy notes that SAS Visual Analytics enables analysis, exploration and discovery using large data sets. It says integrating the DataFlux unit into the parent company strengthens SAS' data management and business analytics strategy.
Visualization is key
SAS Visual Analytics, the latest product in the SAS High-Performance Analytics family, provides a fast, simple and cost-effective path to business insight and better decisions.
"SAS Visual Analytics sports a highly visual interface and draws on an internally developed in-memory computation engine, which generates visualizations on the fly and uses the Hadoop open source data-processing framework's file system (HDFS) for local storage," said 451 Research in the report.
The report said that user-friendly SAS Visual Analytics meets "a growing need for business analytics both within its installed base and outside of it."
"The ability to explore and analyze large amounts of data quickly and efficiently is a huge competitive advantage, said Jim Davis, SAS Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. "451 Research's assessment of SAS Visual Analytics validates our vision of self-service data visualization to uncover insights and opportunities."
SAS Visual Analytics enables organizations to:
SAS Visual Analytics combines the industry's leading analytics, unique in-memory architecture, intuitive data exploration, Hadoop support and information-delivery options. It is the only in-memory engine designed specifically for business visualization of big data on inexpensive, nonproprietary hardware.
SAS acquired DataFlux in 2000. The unit operated as an independent subsidiary until this year. DataFlux® technology provides a full data management foundation for other SAS products.
"DataFlux is critical to our business objectives. Incorporating DataFlux into SAS provides a unified data management strategy that strengthens our customers' business analytics and decision management strategies," said Davis.
