SAS supports Pasquotank schools with computer donationDonation latest part of larger effort to support Elizabeth CityELIZABETH CITY, NC (Dec. 12, 2003) – Continuing its history of strongly supporting education, SAS Institute, the world’s largest privately held software company, donated 50 computers and 25 monitors to two high schools in Pasquotank County today. The 75 units represent the latest in a series of donations from SAS to the area this year, bringing the total hardware contribution to approximately 275 items. The machines will support Pasquotank County and Northeastern High Schools and will be used to set up computer labs at both locations. State representative Bill Owens helped announce the donation at Northeast High School today. "These computers will be a boon to the learning environment here, and will help the children be better prepared for the high-tech careers of the 21st century," said Owens. "Thanks to SAS for this donation and for their continued support of education and corporate citizenship." In addition to financial and in-kind support of education in North Carolina, Cary, N.C.-based SAS partnered with the Bank of America Foundation and N.C. Department of Public Instruction this summer to make the company’s award-winning, innovative educational software, SAS inSchool, available to all state public and charter schools through the 2004-05 school year. "It’s our goal to be a contributing corporate citizen in North Carolina, and we’re pleased to make these computers available to the students at Pasquotank and Northeastern," said George Farthing, SAS community relations manager. Today’s donation is the latest installment in a series of donations to the district, which serves more than 5,900 children from pre-school to 12th grade, including 1,844 students at Northeast and Pasquotank County High Schools. Dr. Tony Stewart, superintendent of Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools, was on hand to receive the donation. "This is another example of everyone getting involved in the education of our youth," said Stewart. "We all have to join together to help students succeed in school. We are always seeking and appreciate the participation of businesses, individuals and other government agencies in this effort. Thank you to SAS for their valuable contribution to the education of our students." About Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools
