SAS among top North Carolina private companiesThree years running, Grant Thornton lists SAS in top fiveCARY, NC (Nov. 06, 2006) – For the third straight year, SAS, the leader in business intelligence, is among North Carolina’s top privately held companies, according to the prestigious Grant Thornton NC 100SM. The awards program recognizes successful companies headquartered in North Carolina. SAS ranked third this year and has been in the top five for three consecutive years. SAS’ 2006 ranking is based on software revenues of $1.68 billion in the 2005 fiscal year. This level of success is due to an award-winning work environment that fosters employee satisfaction, creativity, innovation and dedication to customers. The Grant Thornton NC 100 is compiled annually using information gleaned from questionnaires sent to privately held companies across the state. Responses to questions about financial size, management and accounting issues enable judges to quantitatively evaluate the participants. The list appears in the October 2006 issue of Business North Carolina magazine. Grant Thornton, a leading accounting, tax and business advisory organization, administered the surveys earlier this year. The companies that round out the top five are leaders in their respective industries: The International Group Inc., WILCOHESS, National Gypsum Co. and Baker & Taylor.
