SAS and DataFlux take the lead in data quality

Award-winning solution enhances consistency, accuracy and reliability of enterprise data assets

CARY, NC  (Nov. 03, 2003)  –  According to DM Review readers, SAS, the leader in business intelligence, and its subsidiary DataFlux, a data management technology provider, offer the best data quality software on the market. Since its 2000 acquisition of DataFlux, SAS has pioneered the concept of merging data integration and data quality to increase consistency, accuracy and reliability of enterprise data assets.

The SAS® Data Quality solution improves the quality of information in an enterprise data warehouse, enhancing critical business decisions, resource allocations, price changes, marketing campaigns and daily operations that are based on that information. The SAS solution incorporates a user benefit called ETLQ, which is the process of exponentially enhancing the power of extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) with data quality.

With a total circulation of more than 75,000, DM Review’s annual independent poll of technology professionals voted SAS and DataFlux No. 1 in the Data Quality category. SAS also ranked high in the categories of Business Intelligence, Analytics, Data Administration and Data Stores, and Data Integration.

"DM Review’s Readership Awards reflect the ability of companies such as SAS to provide quality products that effectively meet enterprise needs," said Jean Schauer, DM Review editor-in-chief. "Selected companies have developed strategic and tactical solutions that provide true value in today’s business environment as well as demonstrate a strong commitment to customer satisfaction. I’m pleased to congratulate SAS and DataFlux along with our other winners on their well-deserved honor."

Readers of DM Review were invited to rank companies for product excellence, quality and overall value to the enterprise in a number of categories as part of a survey. The Gantry Group, LLC, a Massachusetts-based strategic advisory and research firm, conducted the annual independent survey between May and July 2003. Survey participants were asked to select products being used in their organizations and then rate the companies that produce the selected products. Award winners were identified based on those ratings.

"SAS recognized early on how critical data quality is in helping executives trust the data they are using to make business decisions and lead with confidence," said Jim Davis, SAS senior vice president and chief marketing officer. "SAS is unique in that it offers the industry’s first fully integrated solution – one that unites data quality and the ETL process, thereby transforming cleansed and integrated data into strategic intelligence. This recognition by DM Review readers is testimony to how much our customers appreciate our data quality offering and also how well the industry recognizes the value of data quality."

"Studies have shown how the effects of poor data quality impact businesses, which is why data quality is a critical component to any company’s business intelligence infrastructure," added Tony Fisher, president and general manager of DataFlux. "DM Review readers understand that better data provides a solid information asset that can help companies identify and reduce inefficiencies, create tighter customer relationships and respond immediately to changing market conditions."

SAS empowers organizations to lead with confidence by ensuring data quality is integrated at the beginning of the ETL process. This is done through the SAS Intelligence Value Chain (IVC) – SAS’ strategic framework designed to help IT deliver needed enterprise-wide intelligence, including ETLQ, which is the data integration platform delivering cleansed and integrated data. The IVC focuses not just on the importance of each individual step of the ETL process, but on how the information generated from each component is subsequently used. In this way, the IVC gives decision makers the power to know what is going on in their organization, leading to immediate and long-term rewards by providing a single, consistent view of the enterprise.
