AAIPharma chooses SAS’ clinical trials solution to support rapid growth

CARY, NC  (Sept. 10, 2007)  –  SAS, the leader in business intelligence, today announced that AAIPharma will help fuel its ongoing global expansion efforts by using SAS® Drug Development, SAS’ powerful data management, collaborative reporting and analysis solution for pharmaceutical, medical device and biotechnology firms.

A leading contract research organization, AAIPharma will use SAS Drug Development to improve the efficiency of service delivery in clinical data management and biostatistics, as well as to integrate, harmonize and scale biostatistics services in a regulatory compliant environment.

“SAS has a proven track record in supplying effective, easy-to-use software for the life sciences industry,” said Anne Wiles, AAIPharma Senior Vice President, Data Systems and Processes. “We’re looking to take advantage of SAS’ expertise and the great working relationship we have already forged to help accelerate and streamline the management and analysis of our clinical trials data.”

AAIPharma is a rapidly expanding provider of contract research services to the pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device industries. This year alone, AAIPharma has strengthened its clinical development capabilities in Spain, Latin America, Hungary and South Africa; expanded its global Phase I capacity to more than 300 beds at facilities across Germany and the US; and bolstered its services to biotechnology clients in pharmaceutical development and sterile products manufacturing by investing more than US $2 million in its facilities in Charleston, SC, and Wilmington, NC.

“Our mutual customers are looking for greater visibility into research progress and outcomes”, said Jason Burke, Worldwide Director of the SAS Health and Life Sciences Global Practice. “AAIPharma and SAS share a common vision for facilitating improvements in drug development through earlier, deeper and more frequent access to critical research information.”

SAS Drug Development leverages the breakthrough capabilities of the SAS Enterprise Intelligence Platform to remove the obstacles in sharing data and applications across organizations and deliver the foresight and understanding required to succeed.

Available as a standalone or hosted solution with access via a secure, thin client, SAS Drug Development provides data integration and analysis, allowing life sciences firms to analyze their clinical research for regulatory submission and explore new market opportunities, product line extensions and safety issues – all within a controlled and secure collaborative framework designed for life sciences research industries.

SAS Drug Development has been designed to meet federal regulations such as 21 CFR Part 11, good industry practices and sound business practices.
