SAS helps Oklahoma City Community College maximize data to gain a clear view of campus operations

Comprehensive software solution to improve management and reporting of financial, performance, human capital and student data

NEW ORLEANS  (July 30, 2007)  –  SAS announces that Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) has selected SAS, the leader in business intelligence, to integrate data from a wide variety of sources and deliver a single version of the truth to users across the campus. The SAS solution, which includes the SAS® Enterprise Intelligence Suite for Education, will help OCCC address the areas of financial, human capital and performance management, and enhance initiatives in student recruitment and retention. Today’s announcement came at the annual meeting of the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) in New Orleans.

According to Dr. James Riha, Chief Technology Officer and Co-Chair of the Achieving the Dream Data Team, “OCCC was looking for a strategic partner who could offer a comprehensive enterprise solution to assist in establishing and supporting our evolving ‘Culture of Evidence.’ Specifically, to help us acquire and store data, establish its validity, transform it into information, help identify what is significant, know what is actionable and provide it in a usable form to the right decision makers at the right time. The SAS solution and partnership will support our ‘Culture of Evidence’ efforts by keeping information available and flowing.”

The SAS Enterprise Intelligence Suite for Education is a comprehensive solution tailored to meet the needs of today’s colleges and universities, including student recruitment and retention, financial intelligence, human capital management, procurement management and overall institutional effectiveness. It brings together the knowledge necessary for making informed decisions, taking higher education institutions beyond the reporting of historical data with the power of predictive analytics.

In addition to the SAS Enterprise Intelligence Suite for Education, OCCC’s license includes SAS® Financial Management, SAS® Strategic Performance Management, SAS® Human Capital Management, SAS® Enterprise Miner™ and consulting services and training.

OCCC will use SAS Financial Management for consolidated forecasting, budgeting and planning, and SAS Human Capital Management for recruiting and retention of faculty, and to maximize staff expertise. In addition, OCCC was recently selected to join Achieving the Dream: Community Colleges Count, a national initiative to help more community college students succeed. The initiative is intensely data-driven and requires analysis of areas including student retention and recruitment. SAS will enable OCCC to integrate data from various sources and meet the initiative’s rigorous reporting needs.

Serving more than 28,000 people each year and with a staff of about 1,000, OCCC offers a full range of associate degree programs that prepare students to transfer to baccalaureate institutions. Other degree and certificate programs are designed to prepare students for immediate employment in a variety of fields. Additionally, OCCC offers a wide range of community and continuing education courses, workshops, conferences and seminars. With such a large operation, the amount of data generated is immense. That’s where SAS comes in, said Kathy Lee, General Manager, SAS Education Practice.

“Business intelligence and data analytics technology is highly prevalent in the commercial sector, and educational institutions are now rapidly catching on to what a difference it can make in reaching their goals. Oklahoma City Community College understands the competitive advantage that the strategic use of data can provide,” said Lee. “Whether the answers needed involve meeting Achieving the Dream requirements or accurate data on faculty, students, finances or facilities, OCCC leaders can be confident that they will be making informed, effective decisions.”
