SAS forms Health and Life Sciences Global PracticeATLANTA (June 18, 2007) – SAS, the leader in business intelligence, today announced that the company has extended its commitment to the life sciences industry by forming the SAS Health and Life Sciences Global Practice. This new division within SAS has been established to serve the growing need for technology and solutions that will further fuel the convergence of healthcare providers, health plans and biopharmaceutical companies. The SAS Health and Life Sciences Global Practice will improve the quality and affordability of patient care around the world through deeper scientific and business insights driven by focused industry expertise and sales support, the introduction of a broader portfolio of solutions encompassing the entire health and life sciences enterprise, and tighter alignment and coordination across SAS functions. “The ability to harness synergies all across the value chain is redefining the health industry,” said Chris Connor, Senior Research Analyst at Health Industry Insights, an IDC company. “We see incredible opportunities in connecting clinical research and healthcare by integrating electronic data capture (EDC) and electronic health records (EHR), for example. The SAS Health and Life Science Global Practice will help their customers to identify opportunities not only from the bench to the bedside, but from the bench to the bank.” Jason Burke has been named Worldwide Director of the SAS Health and Life Sciences Global Practice. Burke has a strong track record in leading health and life sciences initiatives at companies including Microsoft, Quintiles and GlaxoWellcome. “The worldwide, multitrillion dollar health and life sciences ecosystem – including healthcare providers, health plans, pharmaceutical researchers, government regulators, academic centers and others – is facing an unprecedented need for richer business and scientific intelligence,” Burke said. “Improvements in patient health will increasingly be powered by information and analytics, and the SAS Health and Life Sciences Global Practice has been established to coordinate and capitalize on this evolving market opportunity.” As the health and life sciences continue to come together on issues such as safety and quality, information technology will enable evidence-based decision making earlier in research and patient care in order to counteract systemic factors that dramatically undercut the quality of healthcare. SAS is uniquely positioned to help its customers undertake this transformation by leveraging domain expertise, an integrated and comprehensive intelligence platform and industry solutions that provide capabilities ranging from simple reporting up through predictive analytics. SAS is exhibiting at the Drug Information Association’s (DIA) 43rd Annual Meeting, June 17-21, 2007 in Atlanta, in booth #215.
