Innovators to speak at SAS Healthcare Executive Conference

Experts to highlight novel strategies in healthcare performance management, fraud prediction, disease management and predictive analytics

CARY, N.C.  (June 16, 2005)  –  As electronic health records (EHR), computerized physician order entry (CPOE) systems, public clinical trials databases and other cutting edge technologies become standard tools, the spotlight on healthcare IT has never been brighter. SAS, the leader in business intelligence, will help extend the frontiers of innovation in healthcare IT with "Balancing Healthcare Quality and Costs in a Changing World," a conference starting today at SAS’ worldwide headquarters here. Thought leaders and industry executives will share ideas on the ways healthcare providers and insurers can use business intelligence software to treat patients more effectively and to operate more efficiently.

Healthcare performance management, fraud prediction, disease management and predictive analytics will be among the topics discussed in presentations delivered by industry experts and innovators. Conference attendees also will have an opportunity to view several “Intelligence in Action” demonstrations of SAS’ proven healthcare IT solutions.

Tommy Thompson, who served as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services under President George W. Bush, will deliver the keynote address, “Innovations in Healthcare: What’s Next?” Thompson will also lead a panel discussion, “A Quest for Collaboration Between Providers and Insurers: Speaking the Universal Language of Quality,” a dialogue including Richard Sorian, Vice President for Public Policy and External Relations, National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA); Victor J. Dzau, M.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of the Duke University Health System and Chancellor for Health Affairs, Duke University; and Robert T. Harris, M.D., Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President, Healthcare Division, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina.
