SAS® OnDemand for Academics to quickly and easily deliver power of SAS® software to higher education

Data management, analytical skills are more critical than ever for business

SAS Global Forum, ORLANDO, FLA  (Apr. 17, 2007)  –  SAS, the leader in business intelligence, today launched SAS OnDemand for Academics, a service that offers a new way for higher education professors and students across America to access the analytical power of SAS software. The latest milestone in the company's 30-year commitment to education, this new service gives academic customers an additional way to access SAS technology more easily than ever before, offering professors a strong teaching resource and students valuable analytical expertise. Graduates with analytical skills are in high demand as companies invest in software to analyze growing stores of data to make better business decisions.

"We've never offered access to SAS technology in this way before, but we believe SAS OnDemand for Academics is a perfect way to increase our already substantial presence in the higher education market," said Dr. Jim Goodnight, CEO of SAS. "Professors and students can swiftly and easily start using the technology, and teaching and developing the skills for which 21st century organizations are desperate."

Today's announcement came at SAS Global Forum, an annual conference attended by more than 3,500 SAS users from around the world. To use SAS OnDemand for Academics, customers will connect to a secure Web site to register. Instructors will be able to download the software for free. Student prices will be based on the selected service length, with a semester costing approximately the price of a textbook. Payment will be by credit card or a service such as PayPal.

In addition to announcing the new program, SAS hosted a demo station where professors were able to see the service in action and sign up to become beta users. As beta users, the professors will be able to download SAS Enterprise Guide® and begin using it immediately. SAS Enterprise Guide is a powerful Windows application with an easy-to-use graphical user interface designed to enable self-sufficient and fast guided access to much of the analytic power of SAS software. SAS OnDemand for Academics will be fully available in time for the fall 2007 semester.

"Since its beginning, SAS has strived to help education institutions integrate SAS software into their curricula, support research initiatives powered by SAS software, and use SAS to enhance learning opportunities and career paths," said Kathy Lee, General Manager of the SAS Education Practice. “This new service is a huge advancement toward those goals.”
