Santarus selects SAS for data integration, analysis and reportingSAS GLOBAL FORUM, SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (March 17, 2008) – Business intelligence leader SAS announced today that pharmaceutical manufacturer Santarus, Inc. has selected SAS as a technology platform for data integration, analysis and reporting for its commercial operations. With SAS, Santarus will streamline its data integration efforts. Marketers will be able to drill down into sales data to evaluate the merit of business opportunities quickly, such as co-promotions and targeted marketing campaigns. Santarus’ success in developing, marketing and selling ZEGERID® (omeprazole/sodium bicarbonate) prescription products, the first immediate-release oral proton pump inhibitor, led to significant growth for the company. As a result, the amount and complexity of sales data also grew significantly. “We had reached the point where we needed a better solution for data integration, analysis and reporting,” said Sylvia Garcia, Executive Director of IT at Santarus. SAS and ThotWave Technologies, a software consulting firm in Chapel Hill, NC, conducted a thorough review of Santarus’ existing data infrastructure and future needs, and in conjunction with Santarus, developed an enterprise data strategy. “We have been using SAS in our clinical data analysis department for years, so we were comfortable extending SAS to our commercial operations,” Garcia said. Santarus will utilize the SAS® Enterprise Data Integration Server, SAS Enterprise BI Server and SAS Enterprise Guide ®. Technology from Dataflux, a SAS subsidiary, will provide Santarus with improved data quality. With the SAS 9 platform, users of various skill levels will be able to produce and view data-driven sales reports. “Pharmaceutical organizations see analytics as a corporate-wide competency,” said Jason Burke, Worldwide Director of Health and Life Sciences at SAS. “Senior decision makers need deeper insights into their commercial operations, not just scientific outcomes, and they need those insights to be available without a lot of manual effort. The effectiveness of sales force and marketing optimization strategies depends on it.” Today’s announcement came at SAS Global Forum, the largest annual SAS users group conference, attended by more than 3,000 business and IT users of SAS software and solutions.
