SAS to focus on Business Intelligence Competency Centers at Gartner BI Summit 2006CARY, N.C. (Jan. 23, 2006) – SAS Institute is presenting its business intelligence (BI) offerings at the upcoming Gartner Business Intelligence Summit 2006, February 6-8, in London. As a leader in business intelligence, SAS will promote its proven methods for integrating corporate performance, a complete BI platform and the Business Intelligence Competency Center (BICC) used by organizations implementing an enterprise-wide architecture and BI strategy. At the Summit, SAS will distribute copies of the first and limited edition “The Business Intelligence Competency Center: A SAS Approach.” Written by SAS’ BI experts, the new book provides an overview of the BICC concept and benefits while supplying recommendations for the setup and maintenance of a BICC using a step-by-step approach. A second edition, which will be published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc., will appear in time for the company’s international user event, SAS Forum International, taking place May 15-18, in Geneva, Switzerland. For customers realizing that Enterprise BI is more than technology, the BICC can play an important role in supporting the utilization of BI beyond the departmental level. A BICC is a permanent organizational structure consisting of representatives from the business and IT who are dedicated to advancing and promoting the effective use of BI to support a company’s business strategy. By embracing the BICC concept, organizations can overcome challenges associated with defining an enterprise-wide architecture and a BI strategy. A complete BI platform like the SAS® Enterprise Intelligence Platform, provides such an architecture for integrating, storing, analyzing and reporting large volumes of data. With an end-to-end BI platform, organizations can implement a comprehensive, ongoing program for continuous performance improvement across the enterprise. “We are looking forward to helping Gartner Summit attendees understand how their companies can address IT consolidation pressures, costs and performance issues by standardizing on a complete BI platform,” said Mark Torr, technology strategy manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa at SAS. “By using a complete BI platform, organizations no longer need to purchase additional business intelligence tools from various vendors to complement their existing solutions. This keeps total cost of ownership low as organizations can avoid major expenses for designing, developing, testing, maintaining and running BI applications and tools simultaneously from multiple vendors.” For more information, visit: http://www.sas.com/consult/bicc.html.
