Dear Readers,

As my colleague Waynette mentioned in the last issue, my name is Anna Brown and I’m delighted to be the new editor of the SAS Business Report.

Wow, SAS has had a good start to the year. FORTUNE ranked us No. 1 in the “100 Best Companies to Work For” list, recognizing our work culture as the best in the US – which brings inspired and innovative thinking to you. Our 2 percent turnover rate last year speaks volumes for the motivated work force that is with you, and business analytics, for the long haul.

This, coupled with our 2009 revenue growth, makes me so proud to be a part of the company. That I’m able to communicate with you regularly, in an ever-changing IT industry, keeps me on my toes … and a happy camper.

Speaking of prosperity, one thing remains clear about the year ahead: The IT industry will return to worldwide growth mode. Perhaps you’ve seen the technology and software analyst reports: Gartner sees 3.3 percent growth in global IT spending; Forrester Research projects a whopping 8.1 percent rise; and IDC predicts a 3.2 percent increase. This is good news for you. Growth brings profitability and innovation. According to IDC, this growth will allow us to “see a radically transforming marketplace - driven by surging demand in emerging markets, growing impact from the cloud services model, an explosion of mobile devices and applications, and the continuing rollout of higher-speed networks.” You can also look forward to updates and new solutions in 2010.

Now is the time to get it straight, to take advantage of this growth by fine-tuning, revisiting or just beginning to make the most out of your most precious asset: the volumes of data your organization collects. Read on to find practical guidance and updates on how to start.
