Dear SAS® Curriculum Pathways® Educators:

On behalf of our entire team, I welcome you back to school. I do so with the hope that you will not only return to your favorite SAS Curriculum Pathways resources, but that you will also explore our exciting new materials and refinements – many of which are based on your suggestions.

Although the product is now available at no cost, our investment in innovation continues. For example, we’ve added an interactive atlas accessible from all our social studies resources, and we’ve enhanced our award-winning Writing Reviser to help students master sentence fundamentals. We also have a new interactive tool that helps students develop basic algebra skills, and our new Spanish Language Builder immerses students in real-world situations to improve reading and listening skills. We hope that you’ll find these and all our new materials useful in the year ahead.

Thanks to you, we have hit new milestones in teacher and student usage. We expect even greater usage in the coming year. You can help us – and your colleagues – by sharing product information. To that end, we’ve added a new Share feature so you can let other educators review resources and sign up for a free subscription.

As you plan for your own professional growth, please consider our professional development opportunities. Not only will they enhance your use of SAS Curriculum Pathways, but they will help you become a leader at your school in using technology to promote learning.

Thank you for choosing SAS Curriculum Pathways and for all your efforts to make learning more engaging and challenging.

Bruce Friend
Director, SAS Curriculum Pathways

CODiE Award Winner
SAS Curriculum Pathways has won the 2009 CODiE award for Best Reading/English Solution. Winners are chosen after rigorous evaluation by education and technology experts. Last year, SAS Curriculum Pathways won the award for Best K-12 Instructional Solution. CODiE combines the word “CODE” with the symbol for information (“i”) to emphasize a focus on the software and digital content industries. Established in 1986, these peer-recognition awards celebrate both achievement and vision.

Virginia Governor Announces Partnership
Virginia Governor Timothy M. Kaine has announced a partnership with SAS to provide SAS Curriculum Pathways to schools across his state. "Partnering with groups like SAS provides additional resources to support instruction and independent learning at a time when school divisions are cutting back," Governor Kaine said. "This is an important investment in the public schools of Virginia and the young people they serve."

Online Professional Development
This fall, we'll begin offering an online course (asynchronous and self-paced) that guides and supports educators as they transform instruction with SAS Curriculum Pathways (CEU documentation provided). A limited number of teachers will have the opportunity to participate at no charge. Watch for details in upcoming newsletters and on our home page.

Middle School Pilot Program
In September, we'll begin field testing SAS Curriculum Pathways for middle schools to obtain teacher and student feedback. We welcome our pilot schools and teachers, and we appreciate their participation. Please note that materials tested in this pilot program will not be available for general use until the summer of 2010.
