SAS Summer Fellowship in StatisticsThe statistical software development division at SAS is pleased to announce the third annual SAS Summer Fellowship in Statistics for the summer of 2008. Open to doctoral candidates in statistics, biostatistics, and related graduate departments in the United States, the fellowship offers the opportunity to work closely with professional statisticians who develop software used throughout the world. The Statistical Fellow will contribute to activities such as research, numerical validation and testing, and documentation. The program thus provides the graduate student with an excellent opportunity to explore software development as a career choice. Eligible candidates must have completed at least two years of graduate work by the end of the spring semester of 2008 and must have demonstrated experience in statistical computing beyond the routine classroom use of statistical packages. We are particularly interested in candidates with a combination of computational and research experience in one of the following areas: Bayesian analysis, nonparametric regression, survey research methods, and survival analysis. The program provides a salary and stipend for a twelve-week internship at SAS headquarters in Cary, North Carolina, during the summer of 2008. SAS is located in the Research Triangle area, which encompasses three leading universities – Duke, the University of North Carolina, and North Carolina State University – and is also the home of the National Institute of Statistical Sciences and the Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute. Ample intellectual and leisure pursuits exist to make this an exciting opportunity for the chosen student. Interested candidates should visit the SAS Summer Fellowship in Statistics Application page to apply. The deadline is January 31, 2008, for the application and two letters of recommendation from faculty members. Letters should be submitted electronically in PDF form to statfellow@sas.com. The selected candidate will be notified by March 1, 2008. If you have any questions about the program, please send an e-mail to statfellow@sas.com. |
