Paul Kent
Vice President, Platform Research and Development
SAS

As Vice President of the Platform Research and Development division, Paul Kent leads the groups responsible for many of the SAS foundation technologies. Kent's teams develop, maintain and test Base SAS®, as well as related data access, storage, management, presentation and connectivity software products.

Kent joined SAS in 1984 as a Technical Marketing Representative. He then moved into the R&D division where he has contributed to the development of SAS software components, including PROC SQL, the WHERE clause, TCP/IP connectivity and portions of the Output Delivery System (ODS). A strong customer advocate, Kent is widely recognized within the SAS community for his active participation in the community and at local and international users conferences.

A SAS user for more than 20 years, Kent previously worked with SAS software at Decision Support Services in Johannesburg, South Africa. He holds a bachelor's degree with honors in commerce from the University of Witwatersrand; he interrupted his MBA studies at Wits Business School to relocate to North Carolina.

John Fowler
Executive Vice President, Systems
Sun Microsystems

John Fowler has worked at Sun for more than 14 years and has experience in systems and software development and corporate strategy. As Executive Vice President of Sun's Systems Group, Fowler is responsible for the delivery of all systems products, including both SPARC and x64-based server products. Before becoming the head of Sun's Systems Group, Fowler was Executive Vice President of Sun's x64 Systems Group focused on delivering industry-standard network computing systems for Solaris, Linux and Windows.

Before leading Sun's x64 initiative, Fowler was the Chief Technology Officer for Sun Microsystems' Software organization. In his role as CTO for software, Fowler was responsible for overall technical strategy and alignment, in addition to managing an advanced development group.

In other previous roles at Sun, Fowler was responsible for identifying leading technology trends and the companies creating these trends for minority investment and acquisition. His group took a forward view on both hardware and software technology developments, identifying companies that are complementary to Sun. He was involved in the acquisitions of Kealia Inc. (advanced server technology), Nauticus Networks (high-performance content switch), Waveset Technologies Inc. (secure identity management), Pixo Inc. (centralized data services for devices) and many others, resulting in continued innovation and product development for Sun.

Prior to his position with Sun's investment group, Fowler was Director of Engineering for the Sun Software Development Tools organization. Throughout his career at Sun, he has also held a variety of engineering management positions within Java Software, Solaris, Unix Desktop and Graphics.

Terri Hall
Vice President Software Alliance and Solutions
AMD

Terri Hall is Vice President of Software Alliances and Solutions for AMD. She is responsible for driving collaborative software and solution development with AMD's commercial ISV and OS partners and for the creation and execution of joint marketing and sales initiatives with these key partners.

Before joining AMD in September 2003, Hall spent more than 16 years at IBM Corp. in a progression of sales and sales leadership roles. From 2002 to 2003, she served as Director of Global Industrial Sector Sales for IBM's Software Group. Prior to that, she was the Director of Emerging Technology Sales for IBM's Technology Group. In these roles, Hall was responsible for managing and driving strategic relationships with IBM's largest customers. Before joining IBM, Hall worked in the defense industry as a Process Engineer for Ford Aerospace and Communications Corp.

Hall holds a Bachelor of Science degree in metallurgical engineering and material science from the University of Notre Dame and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern California.
