Compete in the Data Mining Shootout
presented by SAS, Central Michigan University Research Corporation and Dow ChemicalSAS, the Central Michigan University Research Corporation and Dow Chemical are teaming up to offer the data mining academic community an opportunity to put their data mining skills to the test. The third annual Data Mining Shootout gives student and faculty teams the opportunity to solve a real-world data mining problem. The top three teams will be recognized at M2009, SAS' annual data mining conference, Oct. 26-27 in Las Vegas.

Who Can Enter
Student and faculty teams from any accredited college or university in the United States.Nature of the Competition
Teams will be given a hypothetical, but common business problem to solve. Data will be provided and the solution will require the selection and use of appropriate data mining methods using SAS software.Prizes
The top three teams will be honored as the Data Mining Shootout Winners at M2009, featured in external press communications, and in SAS and CMU-RC publications. Members of leading teams will also have opportunities to win great prizes, including an all expenses paid trip for one team member and the faculty sponsor to Las Vegas to attend and present at M2009, October 26-27, 2009. The top three teams' universities will also receive cash prizes from Dow Chemical.Important Dates
Release of problem statement and data - February 14, 2009Registrations may be submitted any time before July 17, 2009, though data and problem will not be released until registration is received
Submissions due - On or before July 17, 2009
Notification/Announcement of Top 3 teams - August 28, 2009
M2009 Conference- October 26-27, 2009, Caesars Palace, Las Vegas
