Creating Cutting-Edge Disease Management

"SAS has always integrated its analytic tools better than other software vendors. ... No other software delivers this depth and breadth of analytic functionality. During any given workday, these benefits add up to significant ROI at the University of Louisville."

-- Patricia Cerrito

Insurers have never been under greater pressure to implement effective disease management programs that can identify patients at high risk for chronic illness and high-cost medical treatment. Double-digit increases in health premiums are driving employers to demand aggressive programs to control medical costs. Given the volatile changes in membership from one plan year to the next, insurers must be able to take measures that lead to cost savings within six to 18 months.

How can existing data mining and text mining methodologies and analytics help improve the disease management process? Are you considering all existing factors and using all available technologies to develop a next-generation disease management program?

You are cordially invited to view the archived edition of the first Webcast in our series on disease management and fraud and learn how new technology solutions can help improve data exploitation, risk stratification, program design and outcomes reporting to reduce medical costs.

Webcast highlights

Patricia B. Cerrito, Ph.D., a leading authority on text mining in disease management, explains how data mining and text mining methodologies and analytics can revolutionize disease management. At the University of Louisville, Cerrito and her team of researchers use SAS Text Miner to uncover potential areas for cost savings and to reveal new ways to improve patient care. With SAS, Cerrito and her colleagues can easily analyze text from hospital billings, medication orders and physicians' chart notes to strengthen their research into cancer, genetics, heart disease and environmental health.

Thad Perry, Ph.D., is the CEO of Health Research Corp. He discusses the groundbreaking work he did while employed at the largest and most experienced disease and care management company in the United States. Perry developed predictive modeling methods to reliably forecast which health plan members are at risk of requiring costly or frequent services over the next 12 months. These models are 80 to 86 percent accurate and have become the industry standard for disease and case management risk stratification.

With 16 years of experience in the health payer and provider industry, Senior Industry Strategist Richard Ingraham of SAS was on hand to explain how SAS analytics and tools can help disease management companies and healthcare payers optimize disease management and improve risk stratification and intervention enrollment. Be part of this special event and learn how the University of Louisville hospitals and American Healthways have improved interventions and reduced medical costs through data exploitation, risk stratification, program design and outcomes reporting.
