Although technology has shown tremendous promise in engaging students and improving learning, the current large-scale education challenges require more than simply providing students with high-tech devices, Internet access and utopia visions. Personalized learning has shown considerable promise as a way to engage students in both 1-to-1 and non-1-to-1 environments. Technology can play a key role in personalized-learning strategies, and this paper outlines criteria that technology should meet in order to be effective in helping to engage students and improve test scores.
