Select SAP R/3 Metadata and Create Extraction Jobs Using the SAP R/3 Register Tables Wizard

Use the SAP R/3 Register Tables wizard to browse through SAP R/3 metadata and select the SAP R/3 tables that you want to use as data sources in SAS Data Integration Studio. The wizard then creates jobs that extract the data from the selected SAP R/3 source tables and loads it into a SAS library.
Follow these steps to select SAP R/3 metadata for SAS Data Integration Studio using the wizard.
  1. Select Startthen selectProgramsthen selectSASthen selectSAS Data Integration Studio to start SAS Data Integration Studio.
  2. Select Filethen selectRegister Tables. The Register Tables wizard is displayed.
  3. Select Sourcesthen selectEnterprise Applicationsthen selectSAP R/3 and click Next.
  4. If you are prompted, enter the appropriate user name and password to connect to the SAS application server that enables you to run a SAS session, and click OK.
    The SAP Server page is displayed.
  5. From the Configured SAP Server list box, select the SAP server and SAP Metadata Location, and click Next.
    The Source Type Selection page is displayed.
  6. Specify the type of metadata that you want to load into your metadata repository by selecting one of these options.
    Tables
    lets you load metadata for SAP tables and columns into your metadata repository. If you select this option, click Next to display the Subset Tables page and continue to step 7.
    Standard hierarchies or groups
    lets you extract data from standard SAP hierarchies or groups. If you select this option, click Next to display the Hierarchy Type Selection page and continue to step 10.
  7. If you selected the Tables option in the Source Type Selection page, specify whether you want to search the SAP R/3 metadata or generate a subset of tables using metadata that you already extracted by selecting one of the following options. Then click Next.
    SAP Metadata Search
    lets you search all metadata in your R/3 system for a specified text string.
    Select SAP Tables by Starting Letter of Table
    lets you browse a tree view of tables sorted alphabetically by table name
    Structured View of SAP Tables SAP Data Model Explorer
    lets you browse tables using a data model view of your R/3 system.
    List of All SAP Tables in Alphabetical Order
    lets you browse a list of tables sorted alphabetically by table name.
    Subset of SAP Tables Based on Selection Criteria
    lets you define a WHERE clause and browse only the tables that meet your search criteria.

    Note: The Select SAP Tables By Starting Letter of Tables and Subset of SAP Tables Based on Selection Criteria are the only two options that let you dynamically view your SAP R/3 system.
  8. Depending on which selection you make in the Subset Tables page, one of these items is displayed.
    • If the Search Metadata for String dialog box is displayed, follow these steps.
      1. Enter your search criteria and select OK. Search results are displayed on the SAP R/3 Metadata Search page.
      2. Select the tables that you want from the Search Results tree and click right-arrow button to move them to the Selected Sources tree. Click Browse to change the metadata folder location that is to hold table metadata.
      3. Click Next to display the Wizard Finish page.
    • If the Export SAP Data Model, Select Tables, and Select Folder Location page is displayed follow these steps.
      1. Browse through the data models to locate the source tables that you want to use.
      2. Select the tables that you want from the SAP Data Model Explorer list and click right-arrow button to move them to the Selected Tables list. Click Browse to change the metadata folder location that is to hold the table metadata.
      3. Click Next to display the Wizard Finish page.
    • If the Build Expression (WHERE Clause) page is displayed, follow these steps.
      1. Define your WHERE clause in the Expression Text field and click Next to display the Select Tables and Select Folder Location page.
      2. Select the tables that you want from the Available Tables list and click right-arrow button to move them to the Selected Tables list. Click Browse to change the metadata folder location that is to hold the table metadata.
      3. Click Next to display the Wizard Finish page.
    • If the Select Tables and Select Folder Location page is displayed, follow these steps.
      1. Select the tables that you want from the Available Tables list and click right-arrow button to move them to the Selected Tables list. Click Browse to change the metadata folder location that is to hold the table metadata.
      2. Click Next to display the Wizard Finish page.
  9. If you selected the Standard hierarchies or groups option in the Source Type Selection page, specify the type of hierarchies or groups that you want to extract and click Next. The Set Selection page is displayed.
  10. Select the specific set or hierarchy that you want to extract and click Next. The Options for Set Extraction page is displayed. The fields that are enabled on the Set Selection page depend on the selections that you made on the Hierarchy Type Selection page.
  11. On the Options for Set Extraction page, specify the date that is associated with the data that you want to extract. Also, specify whether you want to add parent-child relationships and source system IDs. Then click Next.
    The SAS Destination page is displayed.
  12. Specify the name, location, and file options for the SAS data set where the set or hierarchy data is to be saved and click Next. The General Properties page is displayed.
  13. Enter the metadata name, description for the table, and folder location in the metadata repository and click Next. The Wizard Finish page is displayed.
  14. Review the metadata about the tables to be registered with the metadata repository. When you are finished with your selections, click Finish to write the metadata to the metadata repository. If an error occurs, the SAS log is displayed.
