Define a New SAP Server

To define configured SAP servers and connect to your SAP BW or SAP R/3 system, use the New Server wizard from the Server Manager in SAS Management Console.
Note: It is recommended that you define application-specific SAP servers. If you plan to use the SAP BW and SAP R/3 wizards that are available in SAS Data Surveyor for SAP, you should define a unique SAP server for each SAP application.
Follow these steps to define a new SAP server using the New Server wizard:
  1. To open SAS Management Console, select Startthen selectProgramsthen selectSASthen selectSAS Management Console.
  2. To start the New Server wizard, select Server Manager from the SAS Management Console navigation tree and then Actionsthen selectNew Server from the menu bar.
  3. Select SAP Server from the Enterprise Application Servers folder and click Next.
  4. Enter a name and description of the server in the Name and Description fields and click Next.
  5. If necessary, update the values in the Major Version Number, Minor Version Number, Software Version, and Vendor fields and click Next.
  6. Select an authentication domain or click New to define a new one. The authentication domain specifies the user ID and password that must be authenticated or verified to gain access to the SAP system. For more information about authentication domains, see the Authorization Manager Help that is available in SAS Management Console. If you define a new domain, the New Authentication Domain dialog box is displayed. Use it to enter a name and description for the new authentication domain.
  7. In the Client field, enter the three-digit SAP client identification number.
  8. In the Language field, enter the SAP logon language. For example, enter a value such as EN (English) or DE (German).
  9. Click Advanced Options to define such options as tracing, batch mode, or the code page. The Advanced Options dialog box is displayed. Define the options and click OK to return to the Connection Properties window.
  10. Click Next and review the SAP server definition that you specified.
  11. Click Finish to save the SAP server definition in the metadata repository.
