Define a New SAP Metadata Library

To define the SAP metadata library, use the New Library wizard from the Data Library Manager in SAS Management Console.
The SAP metadata library is a reference to the physical location of the directory where you want to pre-extract your SAP metadata (for example, C:\r3meta). Pre-extraction saves SAP metadata to SAS data sets that are stored in the SAP metadata library. It also improves performance when you browse SAP metadata, and you can use all available functions in the SAP BW Register Tables and SAP R/3 Register Tables wizards.
You must pre-extract SAP BW metadata to an SAP BW metadata library before you can use the New SAP BW wizard. You can pre-extract your SAP BW metadata using the Extract from BW wizard in SAS Management Console.
You can pre-extract your SAP R/3 metadata to the SAP R/3 metadata library using either the Extract from R/3 wizard in SAS Management Console or the SAP R/3 Register Tables wizard in SAS Data Integration Studio.
When you use both of these wizards, you need an SAP metadata library for each system. These must be defined in SAS Management Console. An administrator typically defines them.
Follow these steps to define a new SAP metadata library using the New Library wizard.
  1. To open SAS Management Console, select Startthen selectProgramsthen selectSASthen selectSAS Management Console.
  2. Select Data Library Managerthen selectLibraries.
  3. To start the New Library wizard, select Actionsthen selectNew Library.
  4. Select SAS BASE Library from the SAS Data folder in the tree view and click Next.
  5. Enter a name and description for the SAP metadata library and click Next.
  6. Select a SAS server from the list of available servers. Click the right-arrow button and then Next.
  7. Enter a library reference in the Libref field. This is the temporary name or alias that is associated with the location where you want to pre-extract the SAP metadata. Metadata is written to SAS data sets that are stored in this location.
Note: Do not change the default value in the Engine value. The BASE engine is selected by default.
  8. Select the physical location of the directory that you want to identify as the SAP metadata library. To define a new directory, you can either use the Path Specification items or click New. If you click New, the New Path Specification dialog box is displayed. Enter the exact physical path of the directory or click Browse to browse for the directory. After specifying the new directory, click OK to return to the New Library Wizard.
Note: You can specify such advanced library options as whether to pre-assign the library or specify input and output block size. To do this, click Advanced Options in the New Library wizard. For more information about advanced library options, see the Data Manager Library Help that is available in SAS Management Console.
  9. Click Next and review the SAP metadata library definition.
  10. Click Finish to register the SAP metadata library definition in the metadata repository.
