Select SAP BW Metadata and Create Extraction Jobs Using the SAP BW Register Tables Wizard

Use the SAP BW Register Tables wizard to browse through InfoCube and ODS table metadata. You can then select such SAP BW metadata objects as tables and columns that you want to use as data sources in SAS Data Integration Studio. The wizard then creates jobs that can extract data from the selected SAP BW source tables and load it into a SAS library.
Follow these steps to select SAP BW objects using this wizard.
  1. Select Startthen selectProgramsthen selectSASthen selectSAS Data Integration Studio to start SAS Data Integration Studio.
  2. Select Filethen selectRegister Tables to start the Register Tables wizard. The Register Tables page is displayed.
  3. Select Enterprise Applicationsthen selectSAP BW and click Next. The SAP Server page is displayed.
  4. From the Configured SAP Server list box, select the SAP server that you can use to connect to your SAP BW system. From the SAP Metadata Location list box, select the SAS library to use for storing the SAP InfoCube and ODS table metadata. Click Next.
  5. If a Log On dialog box is displayed, enter a user name and password to connect to the SAS application server that you want to use to run a SAS session. Click OK.
  6. The Select View page is displayed, where you choose to either browse or search your data. For this example, select SAP BW Explorer and click Next. The SAP BW Browser page is displayed.
  7. Expand the tree in the SAP BW Browser page as needed to browse through the hierarchy of InfoAreas, ODS objects, and InfoCubes. Select an ODS object or InfoCube.
  8. After you select an ODS object or InfoCube in the SAP BW Browser, click Next to display the next page in the SAP BW Register Tables wizard. If you selected an ODS object, the Select Columns page is displayed. If you selected an InfoCube, the Select InfoObjects page is displayed.
  9. If you selected an InfoCube, choose the InfoObjects that you want to include when writing metadata to your metadata repository and click Next. The Select Columns page is displayed. If you selected an ODS object, skip this step.
  10. On the Select Columns page, select the columns that you want to include when writing metadata to your metadata repository and click Next. If you specified an InfoCube, the Select Extraction Options page (for InfoCubes) is displayed. If you specified an ODS Object, the Select Extraction Options page (for ODS Objects) is displayed.
  11. In the Select Extract Options window, select or specify these items:
    • a change data capture (CDC) option
    • whether you want to create a SAS view (if you selected an ODS Object)
    • an extraction date (if you selected an InfoCube)
    • the local SAS library where you want to store the data
    • a metadata folder location to store the table metadata about the objects that you are extracting from SAP
    Click Next. The wizard finish page is displayed.
  12. Review the metadata about the jobs and tables that are to be written to the metadata repository.
  13. After you make your selections, click Finish. The metadata is written to the metadata repository, and the jobs to load your SAP BW data into the SAS library that you specified are created. If an error occurs, the SAS log is displayed.
