The North Carolina 1:1 Learning Technology Initiative

The 1:1 Learning Technology Initiative is a public-private partnership in which pilot high schools across North Carolina are taking a strategic approach to creating future-ready schools.

The Model:

• A laptop computer for every student and teacher (provided by SAS and Golden LEAF).
• Broadband connectivity to the school (provided by the North Carolina School Connectivity Program).
• SAS® Curriculum Pathways® online resources, now available FREE to all US educators and their students. SAS Curriculum Pathways provides content in the core disciplines of English, mathematics. social studies, science and Spanish, and was the winner of the Software & Information Industry Association 2008 CODiE Award for Best K-12 Instructional Solution (view press release).

• Wireless Internet access throughout the school.
• Professional development and ongoing support for teachers as they reshape and update teaching practices and curriculum content.
• School-based staff that provides instructional support for the use of technology to enhance learning and technical support to ensure that the technology is reliable and up to date.
• Program evaluation by the Friday Institute.
