As head of an expanding global team of 5,000 professionals in 48 countries, Mikael Hagstrom is passionate about providing a culture where innovation can flourish, resulting in market leadership for the organization and its customers. He leads SAS’ Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA) and Asia Pacific regions, which account for more than half of SAS’ total revenue.
With a more than 20-year track record of leading high-performance organizations, Hagstrom is responsible for delivering consecutive revenue growth and profit, harnessing the current market potential and preparing the organization for the future.
Hagstrom holds the elected position of Chair of the American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union (AmCham EU) Executive Council and is a member of the board of directors of the Atlantic Council and the Executive Committee that functions as the United States Council for International Business (USCIB)’s board of directors. He is also a board member, head officer or chairman of more than 30 SAS subsidiaries and currently works from SAS world headquarters in Cary, North Carolina.
A noted authority on the multinational business climate, Hagstrom has participated as an expert on numerous panels and lectures on the subject, including World Economic Forum events, Horasis global business meetings, Atlantic Council’s annual members’ conference, AmCham EU’s innovation and business summits, the Tällberg Forum, UN Climate Change Conference, and OECD health ministerial meeting to name a few.
Hagstrom began his SAS career in Sweden in 1989. As Country Manager of SAS Norway from 1998 to 2000, he restructured the office and led SAS Norway to record growth, doubling new sales each year for three consecutive years. Over the course of a few years, additional geographies and P&Ls were consistently added to his growing level of direction. In 1993, Hagstrom moved to the company’s European headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany, where he was promoted to Vice President of Sales for EMEA before assuming his current position in 2007.
